We had an easy flight to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and then a 3 hour delay to Sydney. They got us all loaded onto the plane and then decided there was a suspicious package on the plane. They unloaded everyone and made us get into line to go through the screening process again - everyone was patted down too. They then got us onto another plane to go one the way. By the time this was all done we were three hours late. Turns out the package was something for horses (didn't quite understand the captain's accent) and the chemical smell concerned them. It was likely forgotten by someone on the previous flight. So all was actually fine and we finally got on our way.
We got to our hotel around midnight. The room is nice - small but very inexpensive. At 2:30am the fire alarms went off and we all headed downstairs. Turned out someone burnt some toast so all was fine and back to sleep we went.
Now that we are somewhat rested it is time to go explore Sydney!!
