Batik painting

Today (July 4th) we tried Batik painting - it was a lot of fun!! I would certainly try it again if I had a chance!  It was somewhat tricky to figure out just how much paint to use and I found that some of my areas bled over into other areas - too much paint I suspect.  They prepped the design and the wax outlines and they had everything all pinned out and ready for us to go.  We had to leave them there to dry and for them to boil off the wax and hem the fabric.  Garth and Eileen will pick them up later and mail them back to us.  I am not sure what we will do with them once we get them home - I suspect I will frame them and hang them as artwork.

The design John worked on

Both of our designs
Both our designs partly complete (the dots in between are for testing)

Hard at work!
John is finished

And so am I finished

The rest of the gang's work

We also had a chance to watch professionals work on some Batik.  It was amazing to watch how easy they made it look!

The general area where the Batik painting took place

Nice painting on silk fabrics (we worked on cotton)

Some of the wax outlines on silk - quite intricate!
Some of the wax was applied using stamps (like this) and others were applied freehand
